Chirpăr (Comuna Chirpăr)
Chirpăr (Kirchberg; Kürpöd) is a commune located in Sibiu County, Transylvania, Romania. It is composed of four villages: Chirpăr, Săsăuș (Sachsenhausen; Szászház), Vărd (Werd; Vérd) and Veseud (Zied; Vessződ). Chirpăr and Veseud villages have fortified churches.
The commune is situated in the eastern part of the county, 45.2 km east of the county seat, Sibiu, 14.2 km south of Agnita, and 47.9 km west of Făgăraș.
The village church was erected by the local Transylvanian Saxon community in the 12th century. It was initially built as a Romanesque basilica, made of stone.
